Hot Water Boiler - how to avoid limescale

A hot water boiler is used to heat and store drinking water. These boilers are often connected directly to the central heating system.

De uitdaging

The temperature in the boiler has to be at least 60 degrees Celsius, to avoid a possible growth of legionella in the water system. Low flow rates during off-peak hours caused high tendency of furring up on heating coils. Raw water received no chemical treatment. Regular descaling required dismantling heat bundles for chemical cleaning.

De Merus-oplossing

Installation of a Merus Ring on the common supply line dissolves existing lime deposits and prevents new formation. Existing lime deposits and rust are dissolved in the water and can no longer settle.

After treatment, only a soft layer of limescale on the heating bundle and only in the upper part. Deposits became so soft they will just fall off the heating bundle when it is put on the floor. Cleaning reduced to water hose flushing instead of chemical treatment. One millimeter of limescale at the surface of the heating bundle reduces the heat transfer by 14%.
