Wastewater treatment piggery

A 36,000-pig farm in Yucatan, Mexico produced 1,000 m3 of effluent daily with over 2 million CFU/100 ml coliforms. A 6 inch BIO HCI Merus ring cut bacteria below 100 CFU/100 ml in 45 days.

De uitdaging

Pig farm with 36,000 fattening pigs producing approximately 1,000 m3 of effluent daily. The primary issue was total and fecal coliform bacteria requiring control to meet Mexican regulatory standards. The farm previously relied on chemical treatment with mainly sodium hypochlorite or copper sulfate costing between 1,000 and 1,800 EURO per month. Baseline contamination exceeded 2 Million CFU / 100 ml, while regulations required less than 1000 CFU / 100 ml.

De Merus-oplossing

Installation of a Merus Ring on the pipeline between treatment lagoons 3 and 4 to eliminate biofilm where coliform bacteria multiply.

Within 45 days, coliform bacteria dropped to less than 100 CFU/100 ml. Chemical usage was eliminated entirely. Return on investment was achieved in less than 6 months.
