Salmon have fewer lice thanks to Merus Rings

Salmon lice spread fast in crowded Norwegian fjord farms. In a Nofima trial, salmon on Merus-treated water had almost twice the survival rate of fish in the untreated tank.

Le défi

Salmon lice (lepeophtheirus salmonis) spread rapidly in crowded farming conditions. The parasite docks to the fish skin and lives from the skin of the fish or its blood, posing particular danger to younger fish with high mortality rates.

La solution Merus

Installation of Merus Rings at the water supply intake of the fish farming tanks to treat incoming water.

The salmon that benefited from Merus water had almost twice the survival rate compared to the fish in the untreated tank, indicating significantly reduced lice infestation. The trial was conducted with the Norwegian research institute Nofima. An official study was not published, with reasons unknown.
