Wash Bay - hard water problems

An oilfield service wash bay in Lashburn, Canada had 1600-1700 ppm hard water scaling boilers and heaters. A 2 1/2 inch industrial Merus Ring cleared all scale and dropped boiler heat by 20 degrees.

Le défi

The facility experienced very hard water with high amounts of dissolved solids (1600-1700 ppm, 98 grains per gallon). This caused corrosion and lime scale build up in boilers, water heaters and piping systems. The company had dismantled their water softener, considering it ineffective. A local plumber quoted $45,000 for a complete RO system.

La solution Merus

Installation of Merus water treatment technology to address the hard water issues without chemical softening.

After one month, some improvements were noted. By March 28th there was a huge improvement in water quality with no previous issues occurring. On April 5th a boiler and car wash inspection revealed no scale in the system, and in late April no limescale whatsoever was found during pipe inspection. A heat reduction of 20 degrees was achieved and the trucks are clean without any stains.
