Boiler corrosion prevention | Merus

Boiler corrosion prevention

A greenhouse (Peter the Plantman) uses Merus Rings to reduce boiler corrosion and lower chemical treatment costs.

The challenge

The facility operated 5 computerized, highly efficient natural gas boilers heating approximately 7000 liter of water across seven different loops. Despite continuous adding of expensive boiler corrosion inhibitors, the corrosion rate and herewith the iron content in the water system was never under control. Chemical treatment alone proved insufficient in closed circuits where chemicals have already been consumed on their way to distant parts of the pipe system.

The Merus solution

Installation of Merus Rings at the water loops to develop a protective magnetite coating on metal surfaces, removing existing rust and preventing new corrosion formation.

The iron content reached after a few month time a stable level below 1 ppm, which is far below the set acceptance level of 2.2 ppm. The facility subsequently reduced step by step the dosing of anti corrosion chemicals and now operates with only 1/4 of the corrosion inhibitors used before.
