Iron Bacteria in well water

Iron bacteria are microorganism that use iron as a source of energy, causing biofilm buildup and corrosion in well systems.

The challenge

A farmer experienced severe corrosion in his water storage tanks. Iron bacteria generate reddish-brown slime or biofilm causing unpleasant taste and odors, slime buildup, reduced efficiency, and corrosion.

The Merus solution

Installation of a Merus Bio Ring on the pipe between well and storage tank to reduce biofilm, corrosion, and limescale without chlorine.

Iron content increased from <0.01 to 0.83 mg/l (Aug 20). Turbidity rose from 0.2 to 35.4 NTU (Aug 20). Color increased from <5 to >60 (Aug 20). By Oct 1: iron, turbidity, and color significantly reduced. Water filter remained clean after 2 months

no slime in filter or toilet tanks.
