Corrosion and Limescale in the Cooling Loops

Denka Advantech in Singapore resolved brown water corrosion and limescale buildup in cooling systems using Merus Rings.

The challenge

First cooling loop: brown water found in the sump of the cooling towers caused by corrosion; chemical treatment impossible due to mixed copper and stainless steel pipes. Second cooling loop: infested by limescale despite chemical treatment; nasty crust of limescale was formed on the walls requiring process shutdowns and full-day manual cleaning; high bacteria count in cooling water.

The Merus solution

Installed Merus Rings in both cooling loops to treat the water without chemicals.

First loop: water clarity improved within one week from rusty brown to almost clear with only a few particles. Second loop: limescale fell off the wall without manual cleaning

bacteria count reduced from 9400 cfu/ml to 100 cfu/ml

algae and biofilm became brown and started dying.
