Marine Diesel Engine - Cooling with Sea Water

Marine diesel engines cooled with seawater clog with salt, limescale and marine growth, forcing reduced speed. A Merus Ring stops corrosion and barnacles and clears the filter sight glass.

De uitdaging

Marine diesel engines generate significant waste heat. When seawater is used directly for cooling, it introduces multiple contaminants including salt and limescale, but also marine growth of all kind. These deposits settle in cooling loops, reducing cooling performance and forcing engines to operate below full speed to prevent overheating.

De Merus-oplossing

Installing the Merus Ring in the seawater cooling loop prevents deposits caused by limescale and corrosion. By maintaining smooth inner pipe surfaces, the system prevents barnacles and other organisms from settling and breeding.

Corrosion stopped after installation and the filter inspection glass became clear again (previously opaque). Barnacles were effectively removed in both onshore and offshore applications, and materials pass through without settling or growing in the system.
